+# levitation.wales
+
+Hugo site (hextra theme) for the Swansea Levitated Optomechanics group. The source lives here and builds to static HTML deployed to a VPS.
+
+## Local
+
+- `make serve` : live preview on http://localhost:1313
+- `make citations` : refresh cached citation metadata after editing `data/publications.yaml` (writes `data/citations/*.json`, which are committed so builds need no network)
+- `make build` : `hugo --minify` into `public/`
+
+## Deploy
+
+- `make upload` : runs `citations`, then `build`, then rsyncs `public/` to `/var/www/levitation/` on the server. Only from the `main` branch. It uses `--delete`, so the docroot is an exact mirror of `public/`; that is safe because the docroot holds Hugo output only (out-of-band files have their own subdomain). It also passes `--no-owner --no-group`, since the deploy user (`james`, in the `www-data` group) is not root and cannot chgrp.
+- `make upload-check` : dry-run preview of exactly what `upload` would change.

+## Server
+
+The site is served by Apache at `https://levitation.wales` from `/var/www/levitation/` on the VPS `ovh`.
