James leads the Optomechanics Group in the [Department of Physics](https://www.swansea.ac.uk/physics) at Swansea University. He is principal investigator on the group's current projects: [LEVITAS]({{< relref "/projects/levitas" >}}), [LOTIS]({{< relref "/projects/lotis" >}}), [OSIAN]({{< relref "/projects/osian" >}}), and [NAMIQOS]({{< relref "/projects/namiqos" >}}).
His research spans levitated optomechanics, matterwave interferometry, and Bayesian inference and experiment design, with a particular interest in taking levitated optomechanics into space.

Shaun did his PhD in the group (2024, *Bayesian Inference and Collapse Models in Levitated Optomechanics*) and then continued as a postdoctoral researcher. His work centres on Bayesian inference and tests of fundamental physics with levitated systems.
Through LeviNet he undertook a Scientific Mission to the [Geraci Research Group at Northwestern University](https://faculty.wcas.northwestern.edu/andrew-geraci/index.html).
